Parents, please

I am ten million percent done with parents right now. Not all of us, specifically the ones who keep posting things about how their kids desperately want to get involved, but they (parents) won't let them

Y'all are lazy privileged chicken-shits. I said what I said.

Who the hell do you think you are trying to put out their fire? Blocking young people from participating in rewriting THEIR world is insanity and is firmly aiding with oppression and the status quo as it currently is. If they are passionate, locking them away will only breed defiance and rebellion.

Youthful energy is a beautiful and powerful thing and they have every right to be part of the world that they are trying to save.

WE keep fucking it up for them. US. Not them. US. Our old asses.

They are full of passion and innovation.
Rather than locking them away like precious little fabergé eggs, arm them with knowledge. Direct the energy, help them fight for the cause.

It takes a whole lot of privilege to look babies who are on fire for change in the eye and be like "nope. You're too young."

Half of these black bodies lost were "too young." They didn't want to be involved. They didn't have the privilege of choosing not to.

Your children are not too young and they know it. Y'all know it too. You're just scared.

SO ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR.

That's literally the whole point.

If you're afraid of what a protest is like, then go with them. Or work with them to find ways to help that don't involve being on the "front lines" (spoiler alert: everywhere is front lines for POC - and also the fact that protesting, something we have a constitutional right to, is so often met with violence is SUCH a statement about the state of this country... I just ... I cannot.)

Cockblocking young people from changing the world never works. I'm betting as younger people y'all knew that. The youth have ALWAYS lead the way.

Why is it suddenly different when it's your babies in your ivory towers?

Why teach your babies that they're powerless and should be afraid?

Is it because YOU feel powerless and afraid?

Hey. Guess who else feels that way.
There are about fiddylevenbazillion resources and ways to help, but I keep seeing refusal.

"No. They can't. They're only seventeen. They're too young. We have talked about locking them in their room til this passes."

Sounds like a solid way for your kid to learn that you are exactly the establishment that is creating the problem.

They're not wrong.
