You're My Jam
Thing about love and loyalty is that it doesn't always make sense. That's OK.
It's often unnoticed or taken advantage of or unreciprocated until it's gone. In a perfect world it would be a two way street, but sometimes it's just not. Again, that's OK.
I'm not sure its anyone's job to BE LOVED, though. Just to love and to be loyal to your tribe, to those who move you, with no expectation in return.
No permanence, no ownership, no claiming of territory to the exclusion of all others, no dominion. Just love.
Romance is romance and that waxes and wanes like the moon, but to be someone's beloved - that friend love, that "I want what's best for you even if its not me" love
That "you hurt me but I'm not moving from my place by your side" love (within healthy reason, of course)
That "I didn't even like this song until I heard you sing it loud and out of key" love
That "I see your burden is heavy and I may not be able to carry it, but I can do my best to carry YOU" love
That "I know what you WANT, but it's not what you NEED and even if you hate me for it I'm going to give you the thing that will help advance you" love
That "every time I try to explain how special and important you are to me I end up sounding a little like a serial killer" love
That "just being in your presence is enough to clear my mind" love
... THAT is something special.
It's been said that "To love another person is to learn the song that is in their heart and to sing it to them when they have forgotten"
I know so many lyrics to so many of your songs but there are some that I just can't help but sing to myself, loudly in the kitchen while I do the dishes or softly under my breath as I type this status, humming myself to sleep at night or chirping awake with the sun each morning...
You, my beloveds, are the soundtrack to my life.
