hair Stuff

I'm not a hair blog - but I'm happy to share what I use!

01

It Starts With The Cut

When it comes to curls, the magic is in the cut. Too much length can weigh it down and stretch the curl, so rounded layers are key. I only let CurlPop (based in S. Florida) shape my hair. Yup, there's always a waiting list. Yup, it's worth it.

02

Shampoo With This

I don't use shampoo often - but when I do, it's this one. If you want big hair, you need it clean & not weighed down. Sulfate free. Paraben free. Smells awesome.

03

Conditioner... So Much Conditioner

I use a lot of this so I tend to buy it in multiples, in big sizes, even when I don't need it, etc. Most of my hair budget happens here - no lie. But a good conditioner is a must for my curls. Oh, and never eeeeeever try to untangle hair like mine unless it's wet and full of conditioner. Ever. Please?

04

Define Some Things

When I want some serious spiral definition, this is my go-to. I normally use it at the back of my head since my curls are much looser there. It gives me definition without being heavy. Weight is the enemy of curl.

05

Mousse? Like in the 80's?

Mija listen - I said the same thing. I made the cacaface. I get it. But we've come a loooong way. This isn't going to leave you crunchy, smelling like chemicals, or flammable for the rest of the week.

I'm giving this multiple paragraphs because I flat out refused to try and missed out on years of dope hair.

Try mousse. Even if it's not this one, try one.

06

Flat Roots Are The Worst

If you ask me what a "good" hair day looks like for me, it's massive volume. I, like almost all natural curlies, have a few different curl types going on. Uniform volume can be a struggle - especially at the crown. Enter this stuff. It's a powder you spray on the roots, shake it around a bit and boom - BIG HAIR!

I use the light, but the normal version might be better for you.

07

Holding Down The Fort

I had no idea hairspray came in "variable hold" options until this showed up in my life.

Using different holds on different parts of my hair was a game changer. Totally.

You'll need these tools for "hair days"

01

A Decent Diffuser

Blow drying my hair is a mission. It takes literal hours. My arms hurt. I get sweaty.

But my hair is so much better!

I like this one because it's collapsible soI can actually PUT IT AWAY. *gasp!*

Side note: I love all the Rizos products. Seriously. All of them. All amazing.

02

A Flexible Brush

It doesn't so much matter WHICH one, but you absolutely need a brush that flexes with your curls.

I use this one. But I have 3 kids, so it gets stolen a lot and I end up using one of theirs from other brands.

It all works.

03

A Pick With Wavy Teeth

Volume means a pick. Fluff those roots, boo!

I like this one because it's colorful and fun. That's it. That's really all it takes for me.
